Wasatch Hunting Retriever Club

Welcome to the Wasatch Hunting Retriever Club!

If you would like a well-trained retriever for waterfowl hunting and game conservation, we can help.

The objectives of our Club are:

  • To encourage and promote the quality in the breeding of purebred Retrievers and to do all that is possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection;

  • To urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by The American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Retrievers in the field under hunting conditions shall be judged;

  • To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials and field trials; and

  • To conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, obedience trials, hunt tests and field trials under the rules of The American Kennel Club.

During two weekends each spring, our club holds AKC retriever hunting tests events, providing opportunities for eligible retrievers to earn the AKC titles of Junior Hunter, Senior Hunter and Master Hunter.   We also hold a Derby and Qualifying Field Trial in conjunction with our April Hunting Tests.  Our club events include  2 to 3 group training days ("picnics") annually between January and March.  In years past we have sponsored retriever training workshops by professional trainers as well as judging seminars.  These activities and events are only possible because of a strong and committed membership who volunteer hours of service.   So please come on out, but don't forget to take a turn at throwing birds, judging and hauling equipment.
Our field events are held at the Lee Kay dog training grounds in Salt Lake City.  The grounds are located at 6100 West 2100 South, adjacent to the Lee Kay Public Shooting Center on the north side of State Road 201.  To access the grounds from State Road 201 (westbound), exit 5600 West, turn north, then turn west onto 2100 S, then keep right past the Lee Kay Public Shooting Center. Club membership  is a great way to meet other  retriever enthusiasts.
