Wasatch Hunting Retriever Club

Welcome to the Wasatch Hunting Retriever Club!

If you would like a well-trained retriever for waterfowl hunting and game conservation, we can help.

The objectives of our Club are:

  • To encourage and promote the quality in the breeding of purebred Retrievers and to do all that is possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection;

  • To urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by The American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Retrievers in the field under hunting conditions shall be judged;

  • To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials and field trials; and

  • To conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, obedience trials, hunt tests and field trials under the rules of The American Kennel Club.

Our nonprofit organization holds 2 to 3 group training days ("picnics") annually between January and March.  The picnics help members prepare themselves and their retrievers for our spring retriever hunting tests.  In 2015 we are also co-sponsoring with the Weber River Retriever Club a judges seminar and a handling workshop.   These activities and events are only possible because of a strong and committed membership who volunteer hours of service.  Please come on out, but don't forget to take a turn at throwing birds, judging and hauling equipment.

Our field events are held at the Lee Kay dog training grounds, which are located west of the Lee Kay Center for Hunter Education at 6000 West 2100 South in Salt Lake City.
